On 10 and 11 October, the Sustainable Lighting International Conference (SLIC) was held at the University of Aveiro, an event dedicated to discussing sustainable and innovative solutions in the field of lighting. The conference brought together researchers, professionals and students from various areas of design, engineering and architecture, fostering knowledge exchange on topics such as light pollution, energy efficiency and human‑centred lighting.
The programme featured keynote lectures by leading invited professionals in the field, Jordi Rocasalbas and Kerem Asfuroglu, as well as presentations by national and international researchers, highlighting the role of design and technology in shaping more sustainable nighttime environments.
The conference also offered an engaging social programme, including a musical performance, activities organised in collaboration with Turismo in Aveiro to introduce participants to the city, and finally a night‑sky observation session organised with Dark Sky Alqueva, held in the village of Álvaro, in Oleiros.
SLIC reinforced the importance of sustainable lighting as a central element in urban, environmental and cultural development, creating a space for dialogue and collaboration among researchers, professionals and students from around the world.
