TEMA achieves the highest national rating with an “Excellent” evaluation from FCT

We are proud to announce that TEMA — the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation — has achieved the highest possible classification in the most recent evaluation conducted by FCT (the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology). With a maximum score across all three evaluation criteria (15/15), TEMA ranked first nationwide among research units in mechanical engineering.

This exceptional result is a clear testament to TEMA’s consistent investment in research, innovation and collaboration over recent years. It represents not only a moment of celebration, but also a turning point towards a future of continuous growth and excellence.

The evaluation highlights the success of our multidisciplinary approach, the strength of our interdisciplinary collaborations and the quality of our partnerships — both national and international.

To all our partners, collaborators and team members: thank you. This achievement belongs to all of us. Together, we have demonstrated what is possible — and together, we will continue to go even further.

“This result is a moment of pride for all of us at TEMA. It reflects the outstanding work of our teams and our shared ambition to lead in research and innovation. It is an honour to be part of this journey, and I am excited about what we will achieve next — together.”
Paula Marques, TEMA Coordinator
