João Paulo Davim, Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro (UA) and researcher at the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA), ranked 1st in Portugal in the 2026 edition of the Ranking of Best Scientists in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, a position he has held for the fifth consecutive year. At the global level, he is ranked 50th, having risen 32 positions compared to the previous year (in 2025 he was ranked 82nd).
This ranking is compiled by Research.com, a leading academic platform for researchers worldwide.
He was also distinguished with the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Leader Award for 2026.
The ranking is based on the D-index (Discipline H-index), which considers only publications and citation metrics within a specific discipline, and includes only leading scientists with a D-index of at least 30 in the field of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
The TEMA professor and researcher had previously achieved the top national position among 710 scientists listed across all scientific areas working in Portugal, considering entire careers, in the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025 ranking, in the study conducted by Stanford University/Elsevier and published in September 2025.
