Recognised Excellence: LEM renews its ISO 9001 certification for a further 3 years
The Mechanical Testing Laboratory (LEM) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro (DEM‑UA), integrated within the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA), has successfully renewed the certification of its Quality Management System (QMS) under the NP EN ISO 9001:2015 standard, following an audit conducted by the International Certification Company (eiC). The new certification cycle is valid for three years.
The audit team highlighted the cordiality of the entire process as well as the strong engagement of staff members—factors described as decisive for the success of the audit. They further noted that LEM’s QMS demonstrates “maturity, consistency, and adequate performance,” as confirmed by the positive results achieved consecutively since 2019.
This certification reaffirms LEM’s commitment to continuous improvement, placing particular emphasis on efficiency, resource optimisation, and cost reduction, while ensuring rigorous and reliable services for students, researchers, and external users of the University of Aveiro.
LEM’s certification has played an important role in reinforcing TEMA’s standards of excellence, as recognised in the most recent evaluation process conducted by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), namely: “In addition, the ISO certified Mechanical Testing Lab is another offer for industry for cooperation.”
Motivated by this achievement, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and TEMA further strengthen their commitment to maintaining high‑quality infrastructures and services, fully aligned with the strategic objectives of the University of Aveiro in its engagement with the academic community and, above all, with society.
