UA researcher ranked as Portugal’s No. 1 in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

João Paulo Davim, researcher and Full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Aveiro (UA), was ranked 1st in Portugal and 82nd worldwide in the 2025 edition of the Ranking of Best Scientists in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He was also distinguished with the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Leader Award for 2025. This ranking is produced by Research.com, a leading academic platform for researchers worldwide.

The classification is based on the D‑index (Discipline H‑index), which includes only articles and citation values within a specific discipline. The ranking lists only top scientists with a D‑index of at least 30 for academic publications in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Previously, the researcher had already been the highest‑ranked Portuguese scientist working in Portugal across all research fields, and also the best positioned overall throughout his entire career, in the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2024 ranking, a study conducted by Stanford University/Elsevier and published in September 2024.

João Paulo Davim is also a researcher at the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA).
