Tiago Emanuel Pereira Gomes completed his PhD on February 20, 2026, in the context of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering, at the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation. His doctoral research focused on developing a solution to increase the number of reprocessing cycles that a thermoplastic can undergo in an additive manufacturing context. To this end, he studied the effects of reprocessing on material properties, methods for detecting material degradation during processing using predictive algorithms and non-destructive monitoring techniques, and additives for repairing thermoplastics at the molecular level.

Before that, he had completed his Integrated Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering on July 23, 2018, at the University of Aveiro, after which he participated as a research fellow in the mobilizing project TOOLING4G. Within the project, he developed low-cost, open-source monitoring solutions for plastic injection molds.

He is currently a research fellow in the context of the Mobilizing/Green Agenda for Business Innovation “ATE – Alliance for the Energy Transition.” He has experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks and Fusion 360, as well as numerical simulation tools including Abaqus and Ansys. He also applies programming tools in his work, primarily using the Python language.
