Sara Mota is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro. She has a strong academic background in sustainable energy systems and water technologies, along with a growing research focus on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in water and wastewater systems. Her PhD project, titled "Real-time Predictive and Smart Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Using Accurate Digital Twins and Active Data Analytics," aims to develop a smart predictive digital twin of wastewater treatment plants to optimise their operations while ensuring energy efficiency and compliance with water quality regulations. This research is funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Sara is involved in several research projects in this field and is a member of the research team "ReachOptimum @ TEMA." Her findings have been presented at both national and international scientific conferences.
