Mónica Sandra Abrantes de Oliveira Correia is an Associate Professor, with Habilitation, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro, where she conducts her research within TEMA – Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation. Her scientific career commenced in 1995 with the preparatory work for her doctoral studies at the University of Glamorgan (presently the University of South Wales), focusing on the characterization and modelling of air-assisted atomized water spray systems for the controlled cooling of high-temperature forgings. Upon completion of her PhD, she held a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, during which she further advanced predictive modelling of atomized spray cooling through the development of neural-network-based methodologies.

Her research activities have, in the last decade, placed particular emphasis on the development, processing, and characterization of polymeric materials, nanocomposites, and nanofluids. Her work integrates experimental and numerical approaches to address problems in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and materials science. In addition to her research contributions, she has held several institutional roles, including serving as Coordinator of the Platform for the Molds & Plastics Industry and as Director of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro.
