Mariana Alão is a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro, where her research focuses on enhancing the robustness and accuracy of Smart Predictive Digital Twins applied to Water Supply Systems. She is part of the research team “ReachOptimum@TEMA”. In 2024, she was awarded a FCT Doctoral Grant for a Non-Academic Environment to support her research.

She holds an Integrated Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minho (2019) and completed a research internship with the Medical Imaging Analysis (MIA) Group at the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research, University of Bern, Switzerland.

Before starting her Ph.D., she worked at two start-ups, where she applied engineering and data-driven methods to real-world problems. Her scientific activity includes co-authorship of one publication and oral presentations at four international conferences.
