Maria Alexandra Lopes da Fonseca, é desde Outubro de 2020, Professora Auxiliar Convidada (em regime de tempo parcial, com uma média de 50%), do Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica da Universidade de Aveiro. Desempenha(ou) funções de docência de um conjunto de unidades curriculares, das subáreas científicas do DEM: Térmica e Fluídos (TF), Mecânica Aplicada e Computacional (MAC) e Projeto Mecânico (PC). A candidata, tem vindo a orientar alunos de Mestrado em Engenharia Mecânica. É Membro colaborador do Centro de Tecnologia Mecânica e Automação (TEMA), e pertence à equipa (informal) de Investigação Smart Plastic Lab.

Desempenhou funções de Investigador do Centro de Tecnologia Mecânica e Automação de Janeiro 2007 a dezembro de 2016, como bolseira de Investigação, e após conclusão do Doutoramento, bolseira de pós-doutoramento. Paralelamente, desempenhou funções de Professor Coordenador no Instituto D. Dinis, Marinha Grande, em regime de tempo parcial <30%.

Maria Fonseca é doutorada em Física (2007), sendo o tema da sua tese na área dos semicondutores, e licenciada em Engenharia Física (2001). Durante a realização do doutoramento, esteve alguns anos no Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN), em Sacavém (Lisboa), onde desenvolveu parte do seu trabalho (2002-2006).

Entre Novembro 2017 e Setembro 2020, trabalhou na empresa Lynx Advanced Composites, Lda (https://www.neekomposites.com/wp/sobre-2/), como engenheira de Investigação e Desenvolvimento. A empresa tinha como principal atividade, o desenvolvimento e produção de componentes em compósito de carbono para bicicletas. Na passagem pela empresa, o trabalho realizado foi centrado no desenvolvimento do projeto (P2020) “Desenvolvimento de um quadro compósito para uma bicicleta de montanha elétrica (e-MTB carbon frame)”. Maria Fonseca, foi a responsável, a nível da empresa, pela gestão do projeto, assim como pelo departamento de investigação e desenvolvimento.

Em termos de produção científica, é autora de 7 capítulos de livro, 39 artigos publicados em revistas científicas e 24 participações em congressos nacionais e/ou internacionais. Participou em, pelo menos 4 projetos de investigação, como investigadora.

Na vertente de Outras Atividades Relevantes para o exercício das funções a que se candidata, é de salientar que a candidata participou, em 2013, no programa COHiTEC2013 – Turning Science into Business, organizado pela COTEC Portugal, no Porto Business School, Porto, de e Março a 2 de Julho 2013. Trabalho desenvolvido “CarbonFluids – Advanced heat transfer fluids: a techonology platform”. Foi ainda registado um pedido de patente, com o título “Stable carbon nanofluids, obtaining methods and uses thereof”.
