Bárbara Filipa Casqueira Coelho Gabriel, PhD, is an internationally recognised expert in STEM education, engineering education, entrepreneurship education, higher education innovation, and institutional transformation. With more than 25 years of experience in higher education, research, academic leadership, and international project management, she has developed extensive expertise in curriculum innovation, teacher professional development, educational ecosystems, and the integration of innovation and entrepreneurship within STEM disciplines.

She is an Assistant Professor and researcher at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), where she conducts research in STEM and engineering education, entrepreneurial learning, advanced manufacturing for the circular economy, and innovative technologies for smart and sustainable cities. In recognition of her contributions to educational excellence, she received the 2024 1st National Engineering Teaching Award from the Portuguese Order of Engineers.

Since June 2024, she has served as Vice-Dean for Internationalisation, Innovation and Inclusion of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro. She was founder and coordinator of the Science and Engineering Education (SEE) Group, leading research and innovation activities focused on engineering and STEM learning & learning methodologies.

Bárbara Gabriel was an expert of the European Commission and OECD HEInnovate initiative until 2024, supporting institutional transformation, innovation, and entrepreneurship in higher education. Since April 2026, she has been a member of the OECD Mutual Learning Working Group on Advanced STEM Skills in Higher Education, contributing to international efforts to strengthen advanced STEM competences, talent development, and innovation capacity.

She has served as an evaluator of the EIC Transition call of Horizon Europe, as member of the Panel of Experts for the Evaluation of Entrepreneurship Education Programmes in Higher Education Institutions and Centres (EEEPHEIC) and as an expert in the PROFFORMANCE(+) European projects with consortia composed by Ministries, being the only Portuguese expert selected for both initiatives.

As Principal Investigator, she has coordinated or led seven European projects (THEI2.0, TANDEM+, SFF.DeepT+, GET-AHED, entreTime, EUFORIA, and EUFORIA2.0), including three international consortia, focusing on STEM education, entrepreneurial learning, sustainability, capacity building, and innovation ecosystems. Her work has resulted in scientific publications, international awards, policy-relevant outputs, innovative educational frameworks, and capacity-building programmes for students, educators, researchers, and higher education institutions across Europe.
