Bárbara Coelho Gabriel works as an assistant professor and researcher in the department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Aveiro. She recently received the National Engineering Teaching Award from the Portuguese Order of Engineers. This distinction rewards engineers of excellence, promoting the role of engineering in society's progress and well-being. Bárbara's research has special emphasis in the fields of engineering education and entrepreneurial engineering education, and nanoengineering, related to the Manufacturing for the Circular Economy and Innovative Technologies for Intelligent Cities. Currently she is the Vice-Dean for Internationalisation, Innovation and Inclusion at the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Bárbara Coelho Gabriel was also the founder and coordinator of the Science and Engineering Education (SEE) R&D Group in the University of Aveiro, conducting R&D related to engineering education, namely methodologies for engineering Learning & Teaching, curricula design, implementation and assessment. Bárbara Gabriel is an expert at the European Commission's DG Education and Culture and OECD's initiative HEInnovate for innovation and entrepreneurship in Higher Education. She was also member of the panel of experts of the European project Evaluation of Entrepreneurship Education Programmes in Higher Education Institutions and Centres (EEEPHEIC) and currently Bárbara is an expert of the European project PROFFORMANCE+ focused on the quality of Learning & Teaching in Higher Education. She also participated in the previous PROFFORMANCE project, being the only Portuguese expert selected for both projects. The consortium and Associated partners are composed by Ministries and National Agencies from Hungary, Austria, Czechia, Croatia, Serbia and Georgia. She coordinated, as Principal Investigator, seven European Projects (THEI2.0, EUFORIA, EUFORIA2.0, GET-AHED, entreTime, TANDEM+ and SFF.DeepT+) related to engineering education and entrepreneurial education, being the coordinator of the project and consortium of three of them (THEI2.0, TANDEM+ and SFF.DeepT+). She is also a member of the team, as researcher, of other projects that are currently running. Bárbara Gabriel is currently (since 2022) member of the Board of the Doctoral School of the University of Aveiro (EDUA), of the Rectory's Support team for Pedagogical and Curricula Innovation and was the member of the Board of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education (SPEE) in the mandate 2022-2024.
