Energy Laboratory

Competencies

Responsible Researcher: Fernando Neto

The Energy Laboratory (LE) is dedicated to the study, development and optimization of energy technologies, with a focus on thermal systems, energy conversion and energy storage. The laboratory supports both fundamental and applied research, fostering innovative solutions for energy efficiency, renewable energy and industrial decarbonization.

Core Competencies

  • Analysis and optimization of energy systems (thermal and hybrid), including computational modelling and dynamic simulation.
  • Studies on energy conversion in thermal, electrochemical and thermochemical processes.
  • Research on energy storage technologies (thermal and electrochemical), with integration into sustainable systems.
  • Experimental characterization of energy performance, including temperature measurement, heat‑flux monitoring and global efficiency assessment.
  • Development of solutions for integrating renewable energy into industrial processes and distributed systems.

Additional Information

The LE is equipped with instrumentation for thermal and energy monitoring, advanced software for system simulation, and the capability to integrate with other TEMA laboratories, enabling multidisciplinary approaches in R&D projects.
