Structural Dynamics Laboratory

Competencies

Responsible Researcher: Rui Moreira

The Structural Dynamics Laboratory (LDE) is dedicated to the development of experimental measurement techniques, material characterization, and the design and simulation of the dynamic behaviour of components, structures and mechanisms.

Core Competencies

  • Dynamic characterization tests for materials and components, including DMA and DMTA
  • Experimental modal analysis of structures ranging from small components to large assemblies, including laser‑scanning vibrometry and Digital Image Correlation (DIC)
  • Operational modal analysis
  • Multidirectional vibration testing (random, sinusoidal and shock)
  • Combined vibration–temperature testing
  • Acoustic behaviour testing and sound‑field mapping
  • Design and numerical simulation of structural dynamic behaviour (3D modelling and Finite Element Analysis)
  • Design and simulation of acoustic phenomena
  • Machine condition monitoring using vibrometry techniques
  • Technical consulting
  • Advanced training in experimental vibration and acoustic analysis
  • Specialized industrial services and collaborative co‑promotion activities
