Scientific Seminar with Dr. Pascal Lava (MatchID)
May 20, 2026 | 14:30–15:30
Amphitheatre 22.3.2, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Aveiro

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and TEMA – Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation are organising a scientific seminar featuring Dr. Pascal Lava (MatchID NV, Gent, Belgium), focused on recent advances in the application of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and digital twin methodologies in experimental mechanics.

Drawing on extensive academic and industrial experience, the speaker will address key challenges related to the full DIC measurement chain — including imaging, noise, correlation algorithms and filtering — and will present a digital twin–based approach for the rigorous evaluation of systematic and random errors.

The seminar will include examples related to material property identification, full-field numerical model validation and fracture mechanics, with case studies involving composites, elastomers and sheet metals.

The seminar is open to the entire University of Aveiro community.
