Bridging the Gap: From Anatomical and Surgical Research to Differentiated Clinical Practice

The Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) of the University of Aveiro, within the scope of the Biomechanics curricular unit, are hosting the seminar entitled “Bridging the Gap: From Anatomical and Surgical Research to Differentiated Clinical Practice”. The event will take place at the José Joaquim de Almeida Grácio Auditorium (DEM auditorium) on 19 November 2025, starting at 15:00.

The seminar will feature Abel Nascimento (EUPhD), professor and director of the Abel Nascimento Institute of Reconstructive Surgery (I.C.R. Abel Nascimento, Coimbra). His extensive experience in reconstructive surgery and anatomical research will bring valuable insight into the dialogue between academic research and clinical practice.

During the session, the latest innovations in surgical techniques based on anatomical evidence will be discussed, along with the importance of a multidisciplinary approach involving engineers, biomedical researchers and healthcare professionals to optimise clinical care. The seminar will also explore how technical knowledge from mechanical engineering can support the development of more effective and personalised medical solutions.

This seminar is open to students, faculty members, researchers and professionals in the fields of health and engineering. It offers a unique opportunity to deepen the dialogue between fundamental science, applied research and clinical practice. Admission is free and does not require prior registration, promoting the sharing of knowledge across the academic and professional community.
