Syed Tahir Ali Shah is a multidisciplinary PhD researcher working at the intersection of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and embedded Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems. He is currently a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro (Portugal) and holds a PhD fellowship (BDANA track) supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

With a solid background in Computer Science, his work bridges hardware–software integration, wearable sensing, and edge intelligence. His current research focuses on developing emotion-aware and physiology-aware mobility systems, using data from wearable devices (e.g., heart rate and motion signals) together with embedded machine learning models to support safer, more adaptive, and human-centred smart mobility solutions. The aim is to enable real-time personalization and decision-making in mobility platforms through low-power sensing, on-device inference, and IoT connectivity.

His research interests include wearable-driven smart mobility, affective computing, physiological monitoring, embedded machine learning (TinyML/edge AI), and secure IoT data pipelines. He has contributed to scientific output through peer-reviewed publications and participation in academic events, demonstrating consistent engagement in applied research and technology development.

Overall, his work promotes the next generation of intelligent systems that respond to human needs in real time, combining engineering design, data science, and embedded computing to support more sustainable and user-aware mobility technologies
